Lamai Serengeti, built on kopjes in Northern Serengeti.
When you are game driving close to Lamai Serengeti, you have to squint a bit to see the lodge peaking up from the Kogakuria Kopje. This bush chic lodge is carefully set not to be too obtrusive when you are game driving on the ground. As you climb up the kopje - keep a look out for lions who call the kopje home - you will be welcomed in the circle by a smiling crew and a cold glass of fruit drink. Take the drink, walk towards the main area, and take a minute to enjoy this grand view of Northern Serengeti.
Main area:
You will really enjoy spending time in this earthy + serene lodge in one of my favorite places in Serengeti.
The main area of Lamai Serengeti is spacious, with many different areas to sit down and enjoy the view. The coffee/tea and fully stock bar are close by - keep hydrated on Safari. Each of the areas are decorated in serene neutral tones with splashes of color from pillows and rugs - really inviting spaces to indulge in the expansive view of Serengeti with your drink, a good book or conversation, or if you want, a game of bao.
Bao is a Tanzanian game that the crew at Lamai Serengeti love to teach. There are multiple ways to play and if you get Hussein and Hassan - current managers - as your teachers, you will need to put on your thinking cap. They love a good bao challenge.
The dining area is next to the lounge area. The inside dining area walls have tiny mirrors installed in them which makes the area glow - literally. Breakfast is usually served there. Lunch and dinner can either be an indoor affair or you have a set up outside in the large patio with the perfect view. Either way, food at Lamai Serengeti is always delicious. Fresh fruits and produce are sourced from the surrounding areas - part of their initiative to help the communities around Serengeti.
Want to chill after lunch - they have a pool with a view of Serengeti. Now how is that for possible siesta afternoon!
The rooms:
Each of the eight rooms have king beds or can be converted to two twins. A day bed can become a triple if necessary if the kids are under the age of 16 years and can fit in a day bed. If you are a family with 2-3 younger kids, they have a very comfortable family room. The kids room have two twin beds bordering the master room. If you need two separate rooms, they will put you in two rooms close together. Kids over 6-year-old are warmly welcomed.
Honeymooner on Safari? Your room will be high up on the kopje where you will have the ultimate privacy – just be sure you are ready the conquer the kopjes.
Private House:
Need your own space in Serengeti? Lamai Private Serengeti has 4 rooms that can cater up to 8-10 people. You will have your own pool, personal chef and butler.
In all the room at Lamai Serengeti, you have the option to close the whole room with mosquito netting and keep the bugs at bay. Especially great at night when you can have visible views of the outside without bugs bothering you. Each room as a day-bed - a good spot to enjoy a good book or head outside and enjoy the deck with comfy seating. Admire, ponder, relax, and pinch yourself – you are in Serengeti.
You will not bump into each other in this large attached bathroom. Using concrete, wood and local materials, this chic bathroom is sure to impress. Flush toilet, hot and cold showers, running sink water - all with amazing views of Serengeti. Brushing never felt this pleasing.
Evening walking Safari:
Be ready to enjoy a walking Safari with your guide and an armed ranger. How long you walk can be discussed by you and your guide in the morning. This always get your heart racing and gives you a different perspective on Safari. End your day in Serengeti on top of a kopje, with a drink in hand, and watch the sun set in the distance - extra magic!
Make memories on your Journey To Africa Safari when staying at Lamai Serengeti.
