EAST TO WEST TANZANIA

For those who have been North, how about heading South. From remote Katavi where hundreds of thousands of buffalo herds roam, wild Ruaha where thousands of lions laze in the Savannah to vast, bird-rich Selous Game Reserve.

Day 1   Fly into Dar-Es-Salaam, the largest city in Tanzania. Overnight at Holiday Inn.

Day 2   Head to vast Selous Game Reserve where you will enjoy a slow Safari.

Day 3   Selous Game Reserve has the large Rufiji River running through.

Day 4   Have patience in Selous and you will be rewarded with lions, leopards and even the elusive rhino.

Day 5   Fly from Selous to Wild Ruaha National Park.

Day 6  The three rivers that keep Ruaha beating will also be where the wildlife will come for a drink.

Day 7   Mwagusi River, Great Ruaha or the Mdonyo River, each of these river is a life line for the many elephants of Ruaha.

Day 8   Fly from Ruaha to remote Katavi National Park where there are two flights a week, Monday and Thursday. 

Day 9   Walk in Katavi's endless plains and come back changed. 

Day 10  You may be able to escape the crowds when in remote Katavi National Park.

Day 11  Fly from Katavi to Mahale where your boat to Greystoke awaits.

Day 12  Mahale Mountains, home to the chimpanzee that Dr. Jane Goodall researched will be a trek away.

Day 13  Trek the chimpanzee on Mahale Mountains, fish on the deepest lake in Tanzania and enjoy sunset on the dhow.

Day 14  Another day spent with chimpanzees is another day in paradise. Oh, and enjoy time with Bird Bird, the resident pelican.

Day 15  Say farewell to Greystoke Mahale and fly to Dar-Es-Salaam.
